Dear VSS Conference Delegates, Speakers and Trade vendors,
There is a large amount of media coverage around the novel Coronavirus/COVID-19 disease transmission and response. We continue to watch the developments in this area, but as it stands, the VSS conference for 2023 will continue as planned. We look forward to it being a great event as it has been over the past few years.
Please consider the following advice from local health authorities and your colleagues in relation to the below.
The virus seems to be transmitted from exposed individuals, with the highest risk being those who have recently traveled from China, South Korea, Iran and Italy. The Australian government has enacted movement restrictions on people travelling from these areas. In Australia, transmission is predominantly associated with medical workers and nursing homes.
The general risk to individuals who contract the virus seems low unless you are elderly or have a concurrent health condition that increases your risk.
The best preventative measures are those related to general hygiene. These include washing hands with soap and water or alcohol rubs, avoiding touching your face and reducing physical contact with others.
The conference venue will contain an increased number of stations for hand washing. Please respect others if they wish to avoid physical contact like handshaking.
If you are unwell, please consider your colleagues, and contact your doctor prior to attending the conference.
If you have traveled through a high-risk area (as above) in the last two weeks or come in to contact with a person who may have been infected, please consider your colleagues and don't attend the conference.
For specific and updated advice, please check the Queensland Health department website, the federal health department website and the smart traveler website.
We hope you have an enjoyable and informative experience at the VSS Conference & Workshops and we look forward to seeing you all this week.
