Sat 16th March 12pm : Splenic Masses and Splenectomy

Splenic masses are a common presenting issue in veterinary practice. Typically, they are found in one of three scenarios.

  1. Incidentally on abdominal palpation in a dog with no notable underlying disease - eg during a physical examination for vaccination
  2. Incidentally during diagnostic workup for illness. Eg when performing abdominal ultrasound.
  3. During the diagnostic investigation for an animal with an index of suspicion for splenic disease eg collapse, anaemia or abdominal effusion.

This talk aims to discuss the splenic disease from the point of its identification. We will cover differential diagnoses for splenic masses, the diagnostics available to us, surgical considerations, surgical technique and prognosis.
